The Newsroom Challenge: Bust What’s Fake Competition for Class IX was organized to raise awareness about misinformation and promote critical thinking among students. The main objectives were to help students understand fake news, develop fact-checking skills, and encourage responsible use of digital media. In an era where information spreads quickly, the activity aimed to make students more alert and thoughtful consumers of news.
The competition was conducted in pairs, where students collaborated and each pair identified false or misleading elements and presented their findings through posters or short presentations. This format encouraged teamwork, division of tasks and active participation.
Students improved their analytical and research skills while gaining confidence in presenting ideas. They became more aware of the dangers of fake news and learned to verify information before believing or sharing it. Overall, the activity successfully promoted digital literacy, teamwork, and responsible citizenship.
