Educational Visit to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi
On 4th August 2025, the students of Class XI Humanities from Queen’s Valley School visited the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi, as part of an educational field trip organised by the Geography Department under the guidance of Ms. Pooja Yadav and Ms. Ruby Tiwari. The objective of the visit was to gain practical exposure to meteorological and climatic concepts covered in the Geography curriculum. The experience proved to be both informative and enriching. The visit began with a tour of the Water and Hydromet Division, where the students learned how data on rainfall and river flow is collected and utilised for flood forecasting and water resource management. Then proceeded to the Ozone Monitoring Section, where they were introduced to the methods used for monitoring the ozone layer and studying the effects of ultraviolet radiation on the environment. The next stop was the Satellite Division, where the students observed how satellite imagery is used to track weather patterns and climatic changes across the country. Finally, they visited the main Meteorological. This visit helped us bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and its real-world application, while developing essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, data analysis, collaboration, and communication, and deepening our understanding of how accurate weather data supports sustainable development goals like Climate Action (SDG 13), Zero Hunger (SDG 2) and Sustainable Cities (SDG 11).The students extend their sincere gratitude to the IMD officials for their detailed explanations and hospitality, and the school for organising such a meaningful and insightful experience that deepened students’ understanding of environmental sciences and global sustainability challenges.
