“A sustainable world means working together to create prosperity for all.”
                            – Jacqueline Novogratz
Queen’s Valley School organized an inter-class competition for Grade VII students titled ROOTS & RHYTHMS – Folk Art Expressions on 3rd July 2025. This creative event was centered around Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, which emphasizes creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable urban spaces as part of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.
Students were encouraged to express their ideas through traditional Indian folk-art forms such as Warli, Madhubani, Gond etc. These ancient styles, rich in cultural symbolism and natural motifs, became powerful tools to visually represent sustainable practices—green architecture, clean mobility, public spaces, and community inclusion.
Judges meticulously assessed each entry considering Utilization of Resources, Creativity and Originality, Relevance to The Theme, Idea and Uniqueness, Overall Presentation. The competition also served as a platform for developing essential 21st century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, adaptability and digital literacy.

The competition not only highlighted students’ artistic talents but also instilled awareness about urban sustainability and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. By merging traditional Indian art with global environmental concerns, the event fostered creativity, competitiveness, and responsibility among young learners.
The initiative successfully combined learning with expression, making students active participants in envisioning a better, more sustainable world.
