DESIGN AS A WAY OF THINKING - Workshop for Students (XII)
Queen’s Valley School held an interactive workshop on design for class 12 students on 29th October, 2025, organized by Mr. Satyavijay Singh. The session highlighted the importance of solving real-world problems through creativity and innovation and provided insights into the essence of design and its everyday relevance.
Mr. Singh explained that design is more than decoration; it’s about identifying real problems and creating effective, user-friendly solutions. He stressed that designers need to observe carefully, understand user needs, and creatively balance functionality with aesthetics. “Without design, you cannot think,” he said, linking design to creative thought and visual communication.
He noted that everything we wear or use results from design, shaping our lives. Answering a query on freelancing in graphic design, he emphasized the importance of content quality and showcasing skills effectively.
Using simple examples, Mr. Singh showed how small ideas can inspire innovation, like making a Dip tea cup more user-friendly. He encouraged students to face challenges with curiosity and empathy, fostering continuous improvement and innovation.
The workshop included a hands-on activity where students formed groups to trace outlines on A3 sheets and create charcoal patterns symbolizing themes like freedom and liberation from negative energy—promoting teamwork, creativity, and expression.
Overall, the workshop inspired students to see design not just as visual art but as a way of thinking, combining observation, creativity, and innovation to improve life’s meaning and function.
