The 76th edition of the Adolescent Peer Educators Programme organized by CBSE was attended by students of Queen’s Valley School, Tanisi Jalan (XI C), Anika Gahlot (XI C), Anaya Aggarwal (IX F), Rahini Upreti (IX B), and teacher-mentors- Ms. Savneet Kaur and Ms. Bhumika.
Day-1 held on 17th July, 2023 introduced two themes of vital importance to the attendees. Theme-1: “Understanding Adolescence”, shed light on the true meaning of adolescence, the various aspects of health, and ultimately the implication of health with respect to adolescents. The discussion also stressed on the 10 life skills that are imperative for the sustenance of good health. Moreover, Theme-2: “Resilience”, highlighted the importance of being solution-oriented rather than problem-oriented in order to have a positive outlook towards life. Moving on to 18th July, while Theme-3: “Growing up healthy, importance of Nutrition and Hygiene”, elucidated the significance of maintaining good personal hygiene, and being regular in the consumption of a balanced diet, Theme-4: “Family Bonding and Caring Communication”, laid down the meaning of a family, and the importance of developing effective communication skills and good interpersonal relationship skills along with the need to spend quality time with one’s family.
On 20th July, Theme-5: “Healthy Emotional Expression”, necessitated the need for proper self-analysis and assessment of emotions, and appropriate labelling, expression, and regulation of emotions. Moreover, Theme-6: “Developing interpersonal relationships and mobilizing peer support”, focused on instilling good values and beliefs that would enable adolescents to develop effective interpersonal skills, differentiate between positive and negative peer pressure, and be frank in their expression of feelings and emotions such as love and affection. The last day of the programme that is 21st July, commenced with Theme-7: “Effective career choices and career planning”, which underlined the importance of rising above parental and peer pressure to make effective career choices, and the significance of being aware of one’s preferences amongst the myriad of career options available. Finally, the last theme of the programme, “Empowering oneself for the Digital World”, threw light on the actual meaning of empowerment, and the momentousness of being constructive and careful in the usage of modern technology.
Thus, the training programme ended on a fruitful note, with the peer educators having gained perspective and knowledge on the various life skills essential for the sustenance of mental well-being, and for effective results.
