WORKSHOP ON ‘MY BODY MY REPONSIBILITY’

Queen’s Valley School organised a workshop on ‘My Body, My Responsibility’ for the students of Classes XI and XII on 23rd April 2024. Three experienced speakers, Mr. Siddharth Sharma (Counselling Psychologist), Ms. Pradeepti Devgun (Counselling Psychologist) and Adv. Devanshi Pokhriyal (Law Researcher and alumna 2018) were invited for an interactive session on matters related to self-esteem, body positivity and substance abuse.

The workshop was a perfect balance between casual conversation and profound insights about the topic. During the initial parts of the workshop, issues related to body image, body positivity, self-esteem and self-love were talked about. This was a revelation for students that did not yet understand their value. They experienced a new surge of confidence. Following this, substance abuse and its effect on one’s body and mind were talked about and the issue was deeply discussed not only superficially but at the grassroot levels. The speaker, Ms Devanshi Pokhriyal then spoke to the students about the legal implications of drug usage and trafficking. Her bold, assertive tone and attitude gave a clear message and advice to the students. The session was a success, with every topic being discussed thoroughly and in an integrated manner. The workshop ended with a self-hug, reminding the students that their body is their responsibility.

‘Believe in your capacity to do good and great things.
Believe that no mountain is so high that you cannot climb it. Believe in yourself.’

    – Gordon B. Hinckley

Teachers and parents play a vital role in the holistic development of the children. Parents are the first mentors of the child and teachers the second. Both have an immense contribution and responsibility in shaping the child’s personality. Thus, to bring the two together before the start of a new session, Orientation programmes were held in the month of March. The objective of these was to help the parents transition smoothly into the upcoming session.

The Principal, Dr Namita Sharma, and the Incharges- Ms. Surbhi Nagpal and Ms. Indira Tayal welcomed the parents and congratulated them on beginning a new journey. Parents were acquainted with the social and emotional changes pertaining to the age of the students, changes in the school-timings, colour code of the notebooks, activities planned and, most importantly, assessment pattern in the forthcoming academic year with the help of a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. Ms. Kinshuk Bhalla, the Special Educator, also acquainted the parents with the concept and need of inclusivity in the classrooms. The parents were also encouraged to be regular in attending the Parent Teacher Interactions to address the queries promptly. The parents were also directed towards positive parenting.

The sessions proved to be fruitful for all the parents as they got a glimpse of the approaching academic year.
