Educational Visit to CSIR-IGIB Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (XII)

Innovation is taking two things that exist and putting them together in a new way

On 30th September 2024, Science students in class XII visited the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, (CSIR-IGIB) in Delhi. The visit included a tour of the institute, including many laboratories and hands-on activities. This gave the students an opportunity to get to know the infrastructural facilities at IGIB and interact informally with scientists and research scholars. The students got to see the laboratory equipment and instruments firsthand and got enlightened about the various research projects in science. The students were introduced to the groundbreaking work being conducted at CSIR- IGIB, particularly focusing on the intersection of big data analytics and biological research with the guidance of the research scholars.

The visit provided an invaluable learning experience for the students, offering insights into various domains within cognitive sciences through the utilization of multimodal sensor biomedical data. They were engaged in practical exercises focusing on the detection of fatigue and stress, underscoring the practical applications of data analytics in real-life scenarios. The visit proved to be informative and inspiring for the students and the accompanying teachers.

    COSMIC CLICKS -An Introduction to DSLR Astrophotography Workshop
    "Do not look at stars as bright spots only. Try to take in the vastness of the universe."

    Akriti Srivastava of class X-C And Prisha Mehrotra of class IX-E participated in The Cosmic Clicks: An Introduction to DSLR Astrophotography workshop, held on 28th September 2024 at American Centre, Delhi. The aim of the workshop was to teach astronomy enthusiasts and photography lovers how to capture the night sky using DSLR cameras. The event covered key astrophotography principles, including camera settings, celestial object identification, and post-processing techniques.

    The workshop began with an overview of astrophotography, followed by an introduction to the night sky and tools like star charts and apps for locating celestial objects. Participants learned essential DSLR camera settings—ISO, aperture, and shutter speed—and the importance of manual mode for optimal results. The session also highlighted techniques for photographing the Milky Way, star trails, and capturing crisp images of distant stars.

    By the end of the workshop, participants had a practical understanding of astrophotography and were equipped to pursue further exploration. The event received positive feedback, with many expressing interests in future workshops and opportunities for hands-on learning.

      Cultural Exchange Programme in South Korea

      A group of 27 students from Queen's Valley School, accompanied by Principal Dr. Namita Sharma and two teachers, embarked on a remarkable cultural exchange programme to South Korea from September 21st to 27th. This enriching experience allowed students to immerse themselves in Korean culture, interact with locals, and create lifelong memories.

      The trip was graced by the presence of Padma Shri awardee, Mr. Anand Kumar, founder of Super 30 and Ambassador of Korean Tourism for 2024. The launch of his book at Seoul National University added a special dimension to the journey.

      Students delighted in watching the captivating Nanta show, exploring Lotte World Adventure, and visiting the vibrant Guangdong Street market. They also had the privilege of touring the National Library of Korea, Samsung Innovation Museum, and various traditional sites, gaining a deeper understanding of Korean heritage and innovation.
      The students also embarked on a guided tour of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), gaining a profound understanding of the country's history and politics.

      A highlight of the trip was the Cultural Exchange Program with Mirim Meister School in Seoul. This unique opportunity enabled students to engage with their Korean counterparts, fostering global connections and friendships.

      Principal Dr. Namita Sharma expressed her gratitude for the experience, stating, "This trip has broadened our students' horizons, allowing them to embrace diversity and foster cross-cultural understanding. We are proud to have had this opportunity and look forward to future exchanges.

      The students returned home with cherished memories, newfound knowledge, and a deeper appreciation for Korean culture. This enriching experience will undoubtedly shape their perspectives and inspire them to become global citizens.

        Visit to National Science Centre for the launch of NPS Vatsalya Scheme (XI and XII)

        On 18th September 2024, ten students, accompanied by a teacher, represented the school at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, at the launch of the NPS Vatsalya Scheme by the Hon’ble Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman.

        The event commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries, followed by a warm welcome address by The Chairman of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), highlighting the purpose and scope of the scheme. Key officials then elaborated on the significance of the NPS Vatsalya Scheme, stressing its role in providing financial security to minors and empowering families to plan for their future.

        The highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the NPS Vatsalya Scheme by Hon’ble Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. This included the launch of an online subscriber onboarding platform and the screening of an official launch video. It was followed by the release of a brochure detailing the features and benefits of the scheme. Additionally, eight minor subscribers were granted their Permanent Retirement Account Numbers (PRAN), highlighting the scheme’s immediate impact.

        Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance, highlighted the importance of promoting financial literacy and inclusivity. Hon’ble Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the vision behind the initiative and its transformative potential for families across India. It elucidated the government’s commitment to financial inclusion and empowering future generations with secure financial planning tools. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Manoj Anand, Whole-Time Member (Finance) of PFRDA.

          Rotary Club of Delhi Govinda - Chartering Cum Installation Ceremony of Interact Club of QVS

          On the 3rd September 2024, the Rotary Club Govinda organized an Installation Ceremony at NK Bagrodia School, Dwarka New Delhi. The event marked an important milestone for the Rotary Club, as it celebrated the beginning of a new chapter of service and leadership. The members of the Interact Club of Queen's Valley School, Queens of Impact, were also an integral part of this event, demonstrating the spirit of collaboration among young leaders and service enthusiasts.

          The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and the beginning of a new journey. Following this, the National Anthem was sung, instilling a sense of unity and patriotism among all present. In addition, a vibrant and captivating dance performance by the students of the school further elevated the spirit of the event, showcasing the talents and enthusiasm of the young participants.

          The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Mr. Mahesh Trikha, District Governor Rotary District 3011, whose inspiring words left a lasting impact on all attendees. His speech emphasised the importance of engaging in social activities and making a positive difference in the community. Mr. Trikha highlighted the significance of balancing academic excellence with contributing to society, stressing that true success lies in the ability to bring joy and smiles to others.

          A highlight of the ceremony was the formal installation of the new office-bearers of the Rotary Club Govinda. Ms. Jasnoor Kaur, the newly appointed President, and Ms. Akshika Sharma, the General Secretary, along with other esteemed members of the club, were officially pinned with their respective badges, symbolising their roles and responsibilities within the organisation. This formal installation was a moment of pride and recognition for these young leaders who are poised to lead the club toward further success in its mission of community service.
